Medicago sativa L is a perennial herb, 30~100cm tall. Stem smooth, much branched. There are three compound leaves, the leaflets are long obovate, 1~2cm long, about 5mm wide, the apex is rounded, the base is wedge-shaped, the upper edge is serrated, both sides are covered with white villous hair; the petiole is about 1mm long, hairy; the stipules are lanceolate. Shape, about 5mm long, pubescent. The racemes are axillary; the calyx is bell-shaped, with 5 sepals, narrowly lanceolate, pubescent; the corolla is purple, the flag petals are rectangular-ovate, the apex is rounded, blunt and slightly concave, the wing petals are oblong, shorter than the flag petals, and longer than the flag petals. The keel petal is long and has claws, and the keel petal has claws, and the claw length is about 2/5; there are 10 stamens, 9 filaments are united, and the other filament is separated; the style of the pistil is thin and cylindrical, and the stigma is slightly enlarged and spherical. The fruit is curly, sparsely coated, has a beak at the top, and does not crack. Seeds 1 to 8, kidney-shaped, small, yellowish brown.
