Product Description

Senna leaf is the small leaf of Senna angustifolia or Senna acuminatum, a plant of the genus Leguminosae. It is also known as Chana leaf, diarrhea leaf, and bamboo leaf, and its English name is FOLIUM SENNAE. Senna is a shrub that grows in India, Pakistan, southern China, and many other places. Its name is derived from the Arabic word "sena" and has been used in ancient Indian and Greek medicine since the 9th century. The shrub grows to about two feet tall and has green stems, pods, and yellow spade-shaped leaves. Its alternate leaves are evergreen, with four to five pairs of lanceolate or obovate gray-green fragile leaflets. The flowers are small, yellow, with five clawed, ragged petals. The fruit is wrapped in rectangular pods about 5cm long. The leaves and pods or fruits are used medicinally. Senna leaves, synonymous with Chana leaves, diarrhea leaves, and bamboo leaves, are derived from the small leaves of the leguminous plant Senna angustifolia or Senna acuminatum.

In addition, it also contains kaempferol, melicol, salicylic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, phytosterols and their glycosides, etc.

Senna leaves contain 0.85% to 2.86% anthraquinone derivatives, including sennosides A, B, and C, aloe-emodin-8-glucoside, rhein-8-glucoside, and rhein-1-glucoside. Glycosides, as well as aloe-emodin, rhein, isorhamnetin, kaempferol, phytosterols and their glycosides. Senna leaves contain sennoside C, which is rhein-aloe-emodin-dianthrone-8, 8′-Diglucoside. In addition to sennosides A and B, the pod also contains rhein and chrysophanol glucosides, and trace amounts of aloe-emodin or emodin glucosides.
